The Food is much like the People - Wholesome, Authentic and on the water's edge......
As you enter the Cape Columbine Reserve just outside Paternoster, Seekombuis greets you on the right hand side of the road. Reminiscent of a Waterworld movie set - open air, and swathed in traditional green fishing nets and shell strings, Seekombuis is a true West Coast experience.
It's right on the beach, with only fresh air between your table and the Atlantic ocean, or you could dine in a fishing boat without getting wet, wooden crayfish boats have been beached and fitted with tables for diners waiting to get even closer to the sea. Neels Strydom and his wife Attie own and run Seekombuis, which after being open for just a year, is already a local legend. Lunch and dinner are each 10 different dishes, mainly fish dishes, crayfish or a meat potjie cooked on roaring open fires. The starter of freshly baked bread and home-made jams is complimented by the best snoek pᾱté on the West Coast. “It’s three hours of dining, but Guests often stay for 12 hours”. “And we don’t use recipes and just cook from the heart”. Lighter pub lunches are also served, should you hear the phone ring so close to the water’s edge, it’s just the resident parrot’s flawless repertoire.
